Dave Wilson - Head Coach
Wilson continued with Canada Basketball again this past summer - this time as an assistant coach of the U18 National team that competed in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The team captured the Silver Medal, sweeping all South American teams. Their lone loss came at the hands of Team USA.
Heading into his 27th season as head coach (28th with the program) Wilson feels that the work done by the players over the summer, under the direction of coaches Tim Orpin and Adam Lynn, will prove invaluable to the development of the team this season. With only 7 returning (active) players and five talented recruits, it will take some time for this team to gel. "While we may be a little slow 'out of the blocks', I believe this team will develop into a solid performing team. A very cohesive group, they are continually developing and understanding their own and each other's strengths,' comments Wilson.
In the last 8 years, the team has competed for three OUA East Championships, won two OUA East Division Championships, one OUA Championship, and has made two CIS Championship appearances. Queen's truly is a program that combines the best of both worlds - first rate academics and first rate basketball.
Noted for his commitment to his athletes both on and off the court, Wilson feels that it is essential for athletes to know that the entire coaching staff is willing and able to help with matters relating to basketball, school, and life in general. Continuing to improve his coaching credentials, Wilson has accumulated an impressive background in addition to his tenure at Queen's:
- Assist. Coach, National Jr. Team - Silver Medal, All Americas Championship (Argentina - 2008)
- Head Coach, World University Games Team - 7th Place finish (Thailand, 2007)
- Assist. Coach, National Young Women’s Team - Bronze Medal N. American Championship (Mexico 2006)
- Assistant Coach, National Jr. Team - 9th place finish, World Championship (Tunisia 2005)
- Assistant Coach, National Jr. Team - Bronze Medal, N. American Championship (Puerto Rico 2004)
- Nike All-Canada Camp - Canada Basketball Head Coach (2004)
- Canada Basketball Scout - South American Championship - Bolivia (2004)
- Nike All-Canada Camp - Team Head Coach (2002)
- Assistant Coach, National Young Women's Team - N. American Championship (Brazil 2002)
- Assistant Coach, National Senior Women's Team - N. American Championship (Brazil 2001)
- Chartered Professional Coach (ChPC)
- NCCP Level IV Certified Coach
- National Coaching Institute High Performance Coaching Diploma
- OUA East Coach of the Year in 1998 & 1993
Wilson's post-secondary education began at West Virginia University before transferring to Queen's to complete a B.A., B.P.H.E., B.Ed. and an M.Ed. As an educator, he believes strongly in the value of a Queen's education, and the ability to combine schoolwork with the rigours of the varsity basketball program. He is extremely proud of the academic success of the players in the program, boasting a 100% graduation rate over his 27 years. Himself a former Gael, Wilson makes his home in Kingston with his wife, Laurel, and son, Tai (17).

Tim Orpin - Assistant Coach
Orpin, an outstanding tactician and motivator, enters his 23rd season with the Gaels. Gaining recognition with Canada Basketball, he spent two summers coaching in the Ontario Centre of Performance Program. The Centre brought together 35 of Ontario's best high school-aged basketball players to provide training in the skills and systems used by Canada's National Team. Orpin will use the knowledge and skills gained to further assist the Queen's program. A Level IV NCCP certified coach, Orpin has also completed the gruelling 2-year diploma program in High Performance Coaching. A professional educator by trade, he is currently working in the guidance department at KCVI.

 |
Adam Lynn - Assistant Coach
Lynn returns for his 5th season with the Gaels having accumulated an impressive vitae coaching at Napanee District High School, in the OBA Club system, and now at KCVI. As a Level III NCCP certified coach, Lynn brings a unique combination of talents including a strong rapport with his players, the ability to be creative and adjust to various situations quickly, and an extensive knowledge of the game. A teacher at KCVI, Lynn is a graduate of Queen's University and makes his home in Inverary with his wife, Bety and two children, Toban & Rylie.

Claire Meadows - Assistant Coach
Claire makes her debut on the bench as an assistant coach this season after a stellar 5-year playing career, which included Team MVP and OUA All-Star recognition, along with a trip to the CIS National Tournament. As captain, Claire re-defined the basketball program, instilling a strong work ethic and sense of commitment; characteristics required for any successful program. Currently enrolled in the Faculty of Education at Queen's, Claire will make an outstanding teacher and coach - Boards of Education may want to make early contact with this one!
