Fourth quarter drought grounds Gaels
Queen's 53, Bishop's 67

By Dave Wilson

After a 3-week lay-off for exams and holidays, the team returned to the hardwood on the 27th of December for a practice before heading to Montreal to play Bishops at the Concordia Tournament on the 28th. Although not crisp, the play was not too bad to start the game. After grabbing an early lead, 15-6, Bishops went on a 14-0 run, before we could find the hoop. The rest of the first half was a back and forth battle, with not a great deal of scoring. Bishops led at the half 29-26. Jaime Dale had 7 points, with Sarah Barnes adding 6.

Teddi Firmi was not able to play in the second half because of chronic knee pain, so rookie point guard Brittany Moore was inserted into the starting lineup. Dale also provided support at the point guard position. The third quarter mimicked the second quarter as a back and forth, relatively low scoring affair. By the end of the third, Bishops had increased their lead to 8, 49-41. A solid start to the fourth quarter saw us cut the lead to 2, but a couple of quick turnovers allowed Bishops to regain an 8 point margin. With 5 minutes to go in the game we scored our 53 point - our last points of the game. Barnes finished with 13 points, while Dale added 11.
