Queen's 36 vs Ottawa 47
By Dave Wilson
I'm sure you are wondering if the game was shortened due to a power outage or something - but no, we only managed 36 points in a full 40 minutes of play. It was certainly a case of poor shooting, coupled with a few errant passes and mishandled receptions. At the end of the first quarter we trailed 18 to 3 (yes three). The second quarter was not much better - thank goodness for a flurry of 6 points toward the end of the quarter to climb us to 11 points -14 in total for the first half. Ottawa managed 14 points to lead 32-14 at the break. Christine Wallace (North Gower, ON) was our leading scorer with 4 points & 3 rebounds. We shot 14% from the floor.
The third quarter saw Ottawa go cold and our defense improve. We surrendered 2 points the entire quarter but could only muster 8 of our own to pull within 12. The fourth quarter saw Ottawa make a run to get the margin back to 18 and we also made a run to cut the lead to 8. Only managing 14 points in the quarter, it was difficult to overcome a 12 point deficit and we lost by 11. Alaina Porter (Burlington, ON) was our leading scorer with 9 points. Anne Murphy again hit double digits on the rebounding side with 11 boards. We finished the game with a 21% shooting stat from the floor.
