Ottawa Gee-Gees 71, Queen's Gaels 50

The Queen's women's basketball team fell 71-50 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night at Bartlett Gymnasium in Kingston, Ont.
The Gee-Gees used 43 first half explosion while holding the Gaels to a mere 22-points. The Gaels managed to rebound with a better third and fourth quarter statistically, tying the Gee-Gees with 28 points in the second half.
Alaina Porter of Burlington, Ont. collected 15 points for the Gaels while recording eight rebounds in a losing effort. Ottawa successfully defended OUA leading scorer Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. who tallied a season low five points.
Ottawa's Courtney Berquist was razor sharp, netting six of her nine field goal attempts along with two three pointers to tally 15 points. Teammate Hannah Sunley-Paisley of Toronto added 11 points of her own as well eight rebounds in the victory.
Queen's (6-9) are deadlocked with Laurentian and Ryerson for the fourth playoff position in the OUA east division with 12 points. Ottawa (9-5) has 18 points and are just one game behind first place Carleton and Toronto.
The Gaels aim to rebound tomorrow against the Carleton Ravens (Game time 6:00pm). Last year the women's team split their season series against Carleton (1-1) but the Ravens earned a first round victory in the playoffs edging the Gaels 67-58.
