Queen's 64; Dalhousie 90
By Dave Wilson
We faced full court pressure from the opening tip off against the host Dalhousie Tigers, providing us with great experience. We handled their pressure quite well as they shifted from full court to half court without much success. However, our defense continues to be a problem as we trailed at the end of the first quarter 21-17. In the second quarter a combination of poor transition defense and poor foul shooting saw us dig a further hole, surrendering 23 more points while scoring 19 to trail 44-36 at the half. Brittany Moore (Hannon, ON) put up 15 first half points going 4 for 6 from beyond the arc. Erin Skippon (Kelowna, BC) was also in double digits with 10 points on 5-8 from the floor.
Another brutal start to the third quarter was our undoing. Dal hit four 3-pointers on their first five shots of the half to set us on our heels. Continuing to struggle to control our own boards contributed significantly to the slide. Dal racked up 31 points in the quarter to our measly 10. In the fourth quarter we pretty much traded baskets finishing with 18 points to Dal's 15 for a final of 90-64. Moore finished with 24 points on 6-10 shooting from the 3-point line and was named the Q's player of the game. Skippon finished with 17 points and 8 boards.
