Gaels Defeat Ryerson 62-44
By Queen's Sports Information

The Queen's Golden Gaels gained a split of their weekend home stand with a 62-44 home court win over the visiting Ryerson Rams Saturday night in Kingston. The Gaels who lost Friday night 74-65 to Toronto came out Saturday and played stifling defence holding Ryerson to less than 24% shooting from the field.

In the first half Queen's led 12-5 midway through the opening quarter and then proceeded to hold the Rams scoreless for the remainder of the quarter and the first 5:34 of the second ten minute period. During the nine and a half minute shut down by the Queen's defence, the Tricolour responded by building a 17 point which they carried into halftime.

In the second half Ryerson was unable to make any runs at the Gaels lead getting no closer than 14 points. Leading the way for Queen's were Sarah Barnes of St. Catharines, Ont. and Anne Murphy of Milford, Ont. who both scored 10 points. Every Queen's player scored and played at least 10 minutes.

Lisa Goldring of Burlington, Ont. was the only Ram in double digits tallying 10 points.

The Gaels improve to 4-7 while Ryerson falls to 1-11. Queen's will not be back to the Bartlett Gym until Friday January 25th when they host the Carleton Ravens. Next weekend the Gaels travel to York and Laurentian for games with the first place Lions and third place Lady Vees.
