Poor execution plagues Gaels in loss to UQAM
Queen's 53, UQAM 57

By Dave Wilson

Noting that we have failed to play good basketball on back-to-back nights this season, this was another case of "more of the same." At this point, focus and fatigue would be the most logical candidates - I think focus is the biggest issue. As much as our shooting continues to struggle (less than 35% from the floor and a dismal 27% from behind the arc), of greater concern is our defensive breakdowns. I realize this might sound surprising in light of surrendering only 57 points, but believe me, we gave up some easy (and foolish) baskets. Rebounding continues to be a problem. Given that we turned the ball over 14 times (not a terrible number), forced 17 turnovers (OK), we ended up with 13 less shots than our opponents - rebounds.

We trailed 16-13 after the first, 27-24 at the half. Teddi Firmi was leading the way for us with 6 points. We outscored UQAM by one in the third, 17-16, only to give back a couple in the fourth, 14-12. Christine Wallace finished with 13 points, Anne Murphy had a strong second half notching 12 points and 9 boards. Jaime Dale added 10 as well.
